American Red Cross Dallas Chapter in Action during Glenn Heights Inferno (click to go there) |
| |
|
 |
On June 18, 2011, the City of Glenn Heights experienced a raging inferno that could have destroyed dozens of homes had it not been for the heroic efforts of fire crews from almost every department in Ellis County, Air dumps by the Forrest Service, and all the Best Southwest Cities major fire fighting equipment and crews. Due to the concerted fire effort and stubborn refusal to retreat even with flames shooting twice as high as the rooftops and with winds up to 40 miles per hour, the Gateway Subdivision in Glenn Heights was saved. When all flames were extinguished only one home had been destroyed.
The American Red Cross was also there with a cooling station for residents and firemen. Over 300 hamburgers were provided along with all the water, tea, gatoraide, and even coffee that the exhausted firmen could take. This is only one example of the work of the Red Cross and it is due to the donations of all of us that the work can be done.
Here is a link to the Donation page for the Dallas Chapter of the American Red Cross. Keep in mind that the Red Cross responds to small disasters such as house fires several times a week just in the Dallas area. If you are looking for a good cause where your donation will make a difference, I think this is a good place to give. |
